Reliance Jio Infocomm, India’s leading telecom service provider, announced a groundbreaking partnership with the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). According to Chairman Akash Ambani, Reliance Jio teams up with IIT Bombay to introduce ‘Bharat GPT’. This initiative aims to introduce a large language model specifically designed to cater to India’s diverse linguistic and cultural needs.
Chairman Akash Ambani unveiled the ambitious project during his keynote address at IIT Bombay’s annual Techfest held in Mumbai. “We have been working on a project with IIT Bombay to launch the Bharat GPT program,” he affirmed, highlighting the collaborative effort between Jio and the renowned tech institute.
‘Bharat GPT’ is envisioned to pave the way for advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors. Ambani emphasized the integration of AI not only as a vertical within Jio’s organization but also horizontally across media, commerce, communication, and devices.
Ambani’s vision extends beyond telecommunications, indicating plans to expand into the media space, revolutionize commerce, enhance communication services, and introduce AI-powered devices through this innovative platform.
The collaboration signifies a strategic move by Reliance Jio towards expanding its technological capabilities. Ambani expressed enthusiasm for developing an operating system dedicated to smart televisions, aiming to enhance user experience and accessibility.
Addressing a broader context, Ambani hailed India as the “biggest innovation center” for the coming decade. He expressed confidence in India’s potential to achieve a USD 6 trillion economy by 2030, attributing this growth to technology’s transformative power as a “great equalizer.”
