Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated movie “Tejas” has encountered turbulence at the box office during its opening weekend. The film collected an amount of ₹1.25 crore on its debut day and mirrored the same figures on Sunday. The cumulative collection for its initial three days stands at ₹3.8 crore.
“Tejas”, an aerial action drama, took its inspiration from the life and challenges of Tejas Gill, an Air Force pilot. The story highlights the commendable endeavors of the Indian Air Force pilots who constantly battle odds to safeguard the country.
However, the film has been on the receiving end of varying opinions from critics and audiences alike. While the Hindustan Times labeled it as a “bumpy ride through skies and geopolitics”, the Film Companion wasn’t too kind, dubbing it a ‘comedy’. Viewer feedback on IMDB had negative views, with some terming it a “poor man’s Top Gun” and others going as far as placing it on their “must not watch” list or some said “worst movie ever seen in my life”.
Notably, “Tejas” faced stiff competition from Vikrant Massey’s “12th Fail”, which not only showed progressive growth but also raked in twice as much in its opening weekend.
Kangana Ranaut, in an attempt to bolster the film’s performance, took to social media over the weekend. She appealed to her fans to support the Hindi film industry, which has been grappling with the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, by flocking to the theatres.
Despite her commendable track record, “Tejas” is Kangana’s fifth consecutive film, following “Panga”, “Thalaivii”, “Dhaakad”, and “Chandramukhi 2”, that hasn’t quite hit the mark at the box office.
