In a shocking and heartbreaking turn of events, Suchana Seth, the CEO of The Mindful AI Lab, a prominent artificial intelligence start-up in Bengaluru, has been arrested in connection with the tragic death of her four-year-old son during a vacation in Goa. The postmortem report has revealed gruesome details of the incident that has left the nation in disbelief.
Dr. Kumar Naik, who conducted the post-mortem, stated that the child was smothered to death, using either a cloth or a pillow. He emphasized that it didn’t appear to be a case of manual strangulation. The child’s body was found in a suitcase, and Suchana Seth was apprehended in Chitradurga, Karnataka, while transporting the body from Goa to Bengaluru.
The investigation into this heart-wrenching incident has raised several questions. Dr. Naik mentioned that there were no signs of rigor mortis, indicating that the child had been deceased for more than 36 hours before the discovery. Moreover, there were no visible signs of blood loss or struggle on the child’s body.
Goa Police, who are actively involved in the investigation, believe that the child was smothered, possibly using a pillow from the service apartment. The authorities have collected blood samples and will conduct a DNA test to verify allegations that Suchana Seth attempted suicide by slitting her wrists with a pair of scissors.
Suchana Seth, a renowned AI ethics expert and data scientist, has a distinguished career with over 12 years of experience. She has been recognized on the “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics List” and has held positions as a Mozilla Fellow at Data & Society, a Fellow at the Berkman Klein Centre at Harvard University, and a research fellow at the Raman Research Institute. The tragic incident has also brought to light personal details about Suchana Seth. Originally from West Bengal, she has been residing in Bengaluru. Her husband, Venkat Raman, is from Kerala, and media reports suggest that the couple tied the knot in 2010. However, marital disputes led to them filing for divorce in 2020.
In a heartbreaking twist, Suchana Seth’s estranged husband, Venkat Raman, returned to India from Jakarta upon learning about his child’s murder. He arrived in Chitradurga, Karnataka, and consented to the local authorities conducting a post-mortem on his son’s body.
The Goa murder occurred in a service apartment at Candolim in North Goa between January 6 and 8, according to the Goa police. Suchana Seth had checked into the service apartment with her son on January 6. She left for Bengaluru on January 8 morning, and it was during the subsequent cleaning of her room that apartment staff discovered blood stains on a towel. Concerned by her unusually heavy bag and the absence of her child, they promptly informed the Goa Police, setting off a series of events that led to her arrest in Chitradurga.
This horrifying incident has left the nation in shock and disbelief as investigations continue to uncover the truth behind the tragic death of Suchana Seth’s son.
