Elon Musk’s X much-talked-about social media venture, X, encountered a widespread outage, leaving users across the globe grappling with accessibility issues. X and its professional version, X Pro, experienced disruptions on Thursday, causing uproar among its vast user base.
According to Downdetector.com, a renowned outage tracking website, a surge in reports they marked the sudden global downtime of Musk’s social media platforms. Users flooded the platform to find a perplexing sight – welcoming messages greeting them upon attempting to access their feeds.
“Welcome to Elon Musk’s X! This is the best place to see what’s happening in your world. Find some people and topics to follow now,” read the unexpected message displayed to web users encountering the outage.
Issues persisted particularly on X Pro, previously known as TweetDeck, where users faced loading problems accompanied by a disheartening message stating, “Waiting for posts.”
The severity of the disruption was palpable, with over 47,000 users in the United States alone reporting access problems across both X and X Pro, as confirmed by Downdetector. The website aggregates status reports from various sources, consolidating user reports to track service disruptions accurately.
Frustrated users took to other platforms to vent their grievances. “Anyone else having problems with Twitter? Glitches? Your own tweets and tweets of others not showing? I also had hundreds of articles bookmarked to read later. All disappeared,” expressed one affected user.
This isn’t the first instance of Elon Musk’s X encountering technical hiccups since Elon Musk took the reins and subsequent mass layoffs ensued. Renamed X under Musk’s leadership, the platform underwent alterations in content regulations, resulting in a significant loss of advertising revenue – more than half, to be precise.
Musk’s strategic pivot towards a subscription-based model failed to yield substantial results. Reports from Bloomberg indicate that less than 1% of users have signed up for the platform’s monthly premium service, culminating in an annual revenue estimate of less than $120 million.
The outage underscores Elon Musk’s X challenges in stabilizing its platform while attempting a paradigm shift in its business model. Users worldwide are now awaiting swift resolution as the platform navigates through this tumultuous phase under the influential vision of Elon Musk.
