In a momentous event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the most popular “Namo Bharat” Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) corridor today at the Sahibabad RapidX Station. The inauguration marks a significant leap in India’s transportation infrastructure and urban connectivity. During the ceremony, PM Modi also flagged off the first ‘Namo Bharat’ train, symbolizing a new era in rapid transit for the country.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, in a social media post on Thursday, announced the official name of the RRTS trains as ‘Namo Bharat,’ aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision for a modern and efficient rail system. This move is seen as a tribute to the aspirations of millions of Indians eagerly awaiting a faster and more convenient mode of intercity travel.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, with an estimated project cost exceeding ₹30,000 crore, is set to revolutionize commuting in the National Capital Region (NCR). It will bridge the gap between Delhi and Meerut, reducing travel time to less than an hour and passengers can now travel through the urban centers of Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar swiftly and comfortably.
This groundbreaking project boasts a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour, making it one of the fastest train systems in India. It will offer high-speed intercity commuting trains at intervals as short as 15 minutes, with the flexibility to increase frequency to as little as every 5 minutes during peak hours. This level of efficiency promises to ease the burden of daily commutes for countless residents of the NCR.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is the first of eight RRTS corridors identified for development in the NCR. In Phase I, three corridors have been prioritized, including the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar Corridor, Delhi-Ghazizbad-Meerut Corridor and the Delhi-Panipat Corridor. These initiatives aim to enhance connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable urban development in the region.
The foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor was laid by Prime Minister Modi on March 8, 2019, and today’s inauguration marks a significant milestone in the fulfillment of that vision. The presence of German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, highlights the international collaboration involved in this project, as it is operated by the German rail company Deutsche Bahn, known for its expertise in high-speed rail systems. It is a shuttle train that comes under the NCRTC from Meerut to Delhi at a speed of 160Km/hr.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor promises not only reduced travel times but also a brighter future for urban transportation in the NCR. With ‘Namo Bharat’ leading the way, India is poised for a new era of efficient and sustainable rapid transit.
In conclusion, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor’s inauguration is a monumental step toward enhancing connectivity in the National Capital Region, offering a faster and more efficient mode of travel for millions of commuters. ‘Namo Bharat’ embodies the spirit of progress and innovation that drives India’s transportation infrastructure into the future.
