In an exciting move towards digitalization, Delhi’s public transport system is set to embrace the future with WhatsApp Bus Ticketing. Inspired by the Delhi Metro’s successful venture into WhatsApp ticketing, the Delhi government plans to extend this convenience to bus commuters. This innovative step, spearheaded by the Transport Department, will make ticket booking for Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses a breeze, eliminating the need for standing in long queues or worrying about exact change.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot expressed enthusiasm about this digital leap, noting that the WhatsApp ticketing system will not only streamline the process but also bring transparency and convenience to the travel experience. “Delhi has always been at the forefront of integrating technology in transport, and this new facility is a testament to our commitment,” Gahlot remarked.
A New Era of Ticket Booking
The implementation of this system follows the successful introduction of a similar service by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) earlier in the year. The expansion of this service to cover all corridors of the Delhi Metro, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro, has demonstrated the system’s effectiveness and convenience.
To book a bus ticket via WhatsApp, commuters need to follow these simple steps:
- Send a ‘Hi’ to +91 9650855800 on WhatsApp.
- The chatbot will provide bus route details, fares, and other relevant information.
- Choose the desired bus and complete the payment process using UPI, credit/debit cards, or other available methods.
- For a seamless experience, passengers can scan the QR code provided for quick ticket purchase.
However, there are certain limitations to be aware of. The new system does not support ticket cancellations, a feature absent in WhatsApp ticketing. A marginal convenience fee will be charged for transactions made via credit or debit cards, while UPI transactions remain free of this charge. Additionally, there is a cap on the number of tickets a user can generate online.
Metro Ticket Booking Simplified
Alongside WhatsApp Bus Ticketing also facilitates metro ticket booking. Commuters can save the number +91 9650855800, send a ‘Hi’, choose their language, and then select the ‘Book Ticket’ option. QR codes at metro stations offer an alternative ticket purchase method. Furthermore, mobile QR tickets can be bought through apps like DMRC Travel, DMRC Momentum 2.0, PayTM, Ridlr, and PhonePe.
This integration of technology into public transport is a giant leap for Delhi, marking a shift towards a more digital, convenient, and efficient travel experience for its residents. As the city gears up for this digital transition, commuters can look forward to a more streamlined and user-friendly public transport system.
