As the world marks the 25th anniversary of Cher’s groundbreaking hit Believe Turning 25 the legendary artist shared her candid, and characteristically humorous, thoughts on the milestone during an interview with TODAY’s Harry Smith.
“Believe”, a chart-topping phenomenon that dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks, earned Cher her only Grammy for Best Dance Recording. The song, hailed as an anthem for decades, also received a nomination for Record of the Year. The “Believe” album, recently reissued in a deluxe edition to commemorate this anniversary, was a contender for Album of the Year.
At 77, Cher’s perspective on aging is as unique as her illustrious career. When asked about her relationship with aging, she quipped, “My mother didn’t mind. But I do. I hate it.” Cher’s mother, Georgia Holt, passed away at 96 in December 2022. In a lighter moment, responding to Harry Smith’s struggle with turning 70, Cher humorously remarked, “I’d give anything to be 70 again.”
Cher’s impact on the entertainment world extends far beyond her music. She’s a recipient of an Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy, and her journey is far from over. She’s currently penning a memoir, a challenging task given her extensive career. “It’s very difficult because I’ve lived too long, and I’ve done too many things,” she admitted.
Adding to her repertoire, Cher has released her first Christmas album, titled “Christmas”, and will be performing in the “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” special on NBC. The event, hosted by Kelly Clarkson, will also feature renowned artists like Chloe Bailey, Adam Blackstone, and Barry Manilow.
Cher’s enduring presence in the entertainment industry continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide. As she reflects on the past and looks to the future, her journey remains a testament to her unmatched talent and resilience.
